Hello, I recently bought my first C64 and have been wanting one for years. I already ordered the replacement PSU from Commodore4ever, now I'm curious what sort of maintenance I might need to do on the (computer/disk drive/printer) before using it. I also need a monitor of some kind but I have a lot of old small CRT TVs that I've been told might work. I really want to know about using the C64 for music and drawing, but am also super curious about homebrew gaming, and what new stuff is being made for the system. Please talk at me and make recommendations for reading or youtube videos, I have messed around with a web-browser based virtual C64 and had a lot of fun, but I am not a "computer guy" so learning about this stuff has been on my list for a while. This computer is certainly from before my time and I am a HUGE noob so please bear with me and try to help if you can. Here are a few of my many questions:
I've heard there was a mouse for the C64, what was the GUI like or MOST useful for? What physical media format was the C64 most known for and which one was "best"? (cart disk tape etc) What joystick/s (new or vintage) is best used for gaming? Who was the intended demographic for the C64 and what did it really compete with? Are small consumer CRTs of serviceable resolution to use with the C64? Does video output only need the single RCA in or any type of scaler?
