I know nothing about the mechanics of running a forum but, as an outsider looking in, I would suggest you leave it there if possible. As more people join, which they invariably will due to the resurgence in retro gaming in general and the Commodore 64 in particular, more people will use it.
What do other forums have with their live chat or shoutbox or whatever? Do they promote it? I don't know as I don't tend to use other forums.
The key to it is having a good number of users online at once, not just two or three.
Is there anything else which can be added to the forum to tap in to Commodore 64 users old and new alike?
I like having it. But, it doesn't show up on mobile views of the site (at least, not on my phone/Android using Chrome). So, I only peek at the live chat when I'm on a PC -- which is not as often. But, when I do log in from a PC, it's one of the first things I look for.
I like the idea of having a live chat. I check it from time to time, it's way too silent. There used to be a different live chat at first - I liked the first one better but I think it wasn't available on smartphones, right? Not quite sure since tigertiger just wrote that the current live chat is not available on his android. (Personally I don't use the forum on my phone...)

Many thanks for all your comments.
I have decided to remove live chat, due to the many problems it seems to be causing with the mobile version of the forum. I think Shoutbox (as suggested by @j64c) is all we really need. So, I think we are better off just using this.
I hope my decision is OK with everyone?
Best wishes ... Admin.

It reminds me of the bottom half of the screen on things like Babestation!
Be wonderful if there was a messenger type thing to have a 1-2-1 conversation in real time with other members, if you knew you were both online say, but it reminds me of the time I went to listen to some retro radio thing online and I tried to say something and just got lost in a web of nonsense.
Now I know it seems like I am being a grumpy guts. I tell you what would be perfect ? (don't know how feasible this is depending on forum software, personal coding skills flexibility of the platform etc)
If in your personal settings you could toggle it on or off. So you didn't see it if you didn't want to.
