Welcome to Shoutbox ...
TMR: When it comes to discussion forums, even on the code-heavy ones it's usually a case of someone asking how something is done and other people replying rather than articles about how specific routines work. Dec 9, 2019 9:00:54 GMT
commodore64mania: Hi everybody in the place! ;) Dec 9, 2019 19:17:15 GMT
Omegamax: Hi Mania Dec 9, 2019 20:43:03 GMT
Omegamax: I wish there was a forum were others were showing code and explaining when I first started, that would have been very helpful. Dec 9, 2019 20:45:23 GMT
Omegamax: Although most of the time someone else has already asked a question you might have so searching the forum for the same topic can help. Dec 9, 2019 20:45:49 GMT
J64C: Exactly my thoughts Omegamax. Even sharing different techniques, makes the mind think, and often gets you coding, when you normally wouldn't have. Sure we could search other forums but then that kind of defeats the purpose of this forum existing. Dec 9, 2019 23:29:37 GMT
J64C: In reality, this forum doesn't bring anything new to the table. So why not make it a solid 'resource'? Dec 9, 2019 23:30:56 GMT
J64C: For this forum to become something, we need to make it something. Dec 9, 2019 23:31:30 GMT
Omegamax: I enjoy programming and reading about it so personally I like the idea. Dec 9, 2019 23:53:46 GMT
J64C: I've always wanted to write an IDE. Just one of those things to tick off on my to-do list. Maybe I could invent a new version of basic or something that will compile in to assembly. Dunno. We'll see. Dec 10, 2019 1:56:52 GMT
TMR: If you want to "spark creativity" there's *already* a wealth of resources out there; Codebase 64, books, online tutorials, forum discussions, source on Github... so if those aren't working already, it won't make a difference doing it here. Dec 10, 2019 7:14:27 GMT
TMR: 30 years ago I learnt 6502 from two books (one wasn't for the C64), figuring how things worked for myself and asking questions from someone who knew more when I got stuck. The only difference now is those answers would be public for others to learn from. Dec 10, 2019 7:21:00 GMT
J64C: 35 years ago when I was learning 6502 all I had was magazine articles to glean information from. I didn't have anyone to fall back on, as I didn't know anyone who new how to program. Let alone in assembly code. Dec 10, 2019 10:30:14 GMT
J64C: Same goes to this day. I still don't know a single person in the real world who knows anything about coding. 100% self taught my entire life. Dec 10, 2019 10:31:35 GMT
Omegamax: I can't recall exactly but it's been around 12-15 years for me programming in assembly.Nowhere near some of you gentlemen Dec 10, 2019 17:43:57 GMT
aNdy/AL/Cosine: Been almost a year coding in 6502 for me now! Dec 10, 2019 18:48:36 GMT
Omegamax: Did you have experiance in another language before 6502 or is that what you started learning programming with? Dec 10, 2019 18:50:50 GMT
Omegamax: experience Dec 10, 2019 18:54:18 GMT
J64C: That's what I started with. Started 35 years ago, but certainly wouldn't say I have that many years experience. Haven't touched 6502 asm for nearly three decades. LOL Dec 10, 2019 20:55:17 GMT
aNdy/AL/Cosine: Over the years, I've used AMOS and Blitz Basic 2 on the Amiga and Purebasic on the PC. On the C64, I used BASIC lots when I was younger, but have only tried assembly seriously in the last year. Dec 11, 2019 0:28:45 GMT
